FICTIONKIN FAQ

What is fictionkin?
Fictionkin is a subset of Otherkin. Fictionkin is a connection, often spiritual or psychological, with a fictional character and/or species. This connection is deep enough to identify as and/or with them. Fictionkin often believe that they are or were a fictional character or species either now or in a past life. Sometimes kinning is used as a coping mechanism for neurodivergent people. Both methods are equally valid!

What is otherkin?
Otherkin is the belief that you are, in a way, nonhuman. It is similar to fictionkin but with nonhuman creatures. Those who are otherkin with real-life animals (ex: wolves) are called therians.

What is synpath/fictionhearted?
These two words mean the same thing: They are referring to a character that you identify with but not as. You can have a strong connection with a character to consider them a part of your identity but not think of them as you.

What is copinglink?
Copinglink, also referred to as c'link, is a subset of fictionkin. Basically, it means identifying as a fictional character or species for coping purposes. Those purposes are usually due to trauma, illness, disability, etc.

How do I know I am fictionkin?
- When you see a character, you think "that's me!" when you see them in anime, pictures, fanart, etc.
- When you see characters they are close to (best friend, significant other(s), family members, classmates, etc.) you feel a comforting/warm feeling
- You feel nostalgia or deja vu when watching/reading/playing your source
- You have memories as your kin (not everyone gets memories! It's okay if you don't)
- You may have a dream as that kin or somehow kinfirming that kin for you or someone you are close to. This doesn't happen too often, but has before for me personally!
Try speaking about the character in question in the first person, call their friends/family your friends/family, their home your home, etc. Try thinking about events from their canon and people they knew, does it evoke a sense of familiarity or any strong feelings? How do you feel about their hobbies, likes, dislikes, etc?

Types of memories
Visual - Images or scenarios you remember experiencing or seeing
Auditory - The voice of a loved one/someone or something they said, or a conversation you had at some point
Tactile - The way something felt, like the clothes you wore or holding someone's hand, or the pain from a fight you had
Olfactory - The smell of a place you’d been
Taste - The flavor of your favorite food or something that no longer or never existed here
Emotional - Something that happened in your canon made you feel, the feelings you held towards loved ones, anger at your nemesis, etc
You just know is a fact - Something you know happened and although you can’t exactly hold any memories you can see or sense to it as evidence, you just know

How can I spark some memories?
Not everyone gets memories and that is okay!! However, if you're looking to, hopefully, spark some, some good ways are:
- Reading your Wikipedia page (or wiki pages of those you are/were close to)
- Surround yourself with things from your canon (your favorite food as that kin, etc.)
- Roleplay as your kin/kinsider
- Talk to others who kin from the same source (doesn’t have to be canonmates).
Focus on what you do know! Memories won’t always be full-on movie flashback types; Sometimes they’re just things you think or know happened, sometimes they’re just gut feelings, sometimes they’re dreams, and sometimes they’re hazy images you can hardly focus on.

Is it okay to not like doubles / Is it normal to be okay with doubles?
Yes, both of those are okay. If you do not like doubles of your kintype, it's okay as long as you don’t shame doubles somewhere they can see. If you are okay with doubles, it’s perfectly fine; However, don’t shame other people for being incapable of speaking to/seeing doubles or for holding the personal belief that they are the “only real” one as long as they are not making it extremely public and/or hurting others intentionally.

Is it okay to kin as multiple characters from the same franchise/source?
Yes! There are many people who kin as more than one character from a certain franchise/game/anime/etc.

Is it okay to kin with a character that is a different gender/sexuality/etc. than myself in this life?
Yes! You don't have to be male to kin with male characters, gay to kin with characters that are gay, and so on. It's also okay to kin as characters that have mental illnesses you may not have in this life either, as long as you're not claiming to have that mental illness now. Race (skin color, not like "animal" race) is where it gets tricky. In my opinion, it's okay to kin as characters outside your race AS LONG AS you're not claiming to be that race now. However, I've seen people who have different opinions on this matter so just be warned some people may give you a hard time if you kin with a character outside of your current race.

Kin Terms
Kin - You! ("That's me!") A character you kin as or you are!
Kinfirm - Confirming a kin
Kinsider - Considering a kin
Mems - Memories
Canonmate - Someone who shares the same memories/feelings/etc. as you! You can become canonmates.
Canon - Someone's life/reality/what they lived through or are living through (Hard to explain. Used typically such as: "were you _____ in your canon?")
Canon divergent - Someone's canon that does not follow the "canon" anime/manga/game/etc. (Ex: Their scar was on the other side of their face, they're a different sexuality, etc.)
Canon call - A message or post looking for people who might share memories with the poster and be from the same canon.
Kinbait/kinbaiting/baiting - Luring or baiting someone to kin as a certain character or from a certain source (typically done just for fun with friends!)
Source - Where your kin comes from (which game, anime, manga, etc.)
Shift - Which kin is presenting themselves the most at any given moment. Usually, images, songs, or objects will make someone shift into one of their kins. Depending on what shift they're in, their mood or attitude might change.
Valid - When someone is feeling like themselves and real! This is a VERY good thing to feel!!
Invalid - When someone isn't feeling themselves/as their kin, usually happens when they see a double or kin hate.
Double - Someone who also kins as the same character as you. Some people do not like doubles, some are iffy, and others are okay with doubles (usually depends on which kin specifically).
Dissociate/dissociative/dissociating - Dissociation is a mental process that causes a lack of connection in a person's thoughts, memory, and sense of identity. (Varies from person to person. Dissociation might happen when encountering a double.)

PSA/BEWARE NINTENGIRL/PIXELBURST(OLD MAGNUS OWNER)

I didn't want to do this. I don't want drama. But she has done so much damage to me that I cannot take it anymore.
In 2015, I (previously known as “zeiroe”), huskyhiccups, purchased Magnus the Dutch Angel Dragon fursuit and character from Sarina (nintengirl, or pixelburst on FA). I paid ~$2,300 for the fursuit and $1,000 for the character rights (Plus the Kigu, hat, backpack, FY/TY tag, all badges, all art, etc.).

While direct messaging back and forth with Sarina, I definitely tried my best to be friendly. We got to know each other and I felt like we were friends in the beginning. Although we had some bumps during the payment process which might have caused an issue, we (Sarina and I) both acted maturely without lashing out or blaming one another. It all got sorted out right away. However, after I got the suit, Sarina got upset with me and blocked me on all social media.

I received the Magnus FURSUIT and a bandanna in early December. Sarina told me she wanted to ship the other items separate so they wouldn't squish the suit. I was fine with that. However, the items never came. She promised me them to be shipped about by mid-February 2016. When I contacted her about where the items were, she said she couldn't afford it (after I paid for shipping already..?) and had a disability (to which when I asked, she snapped and said it wasn't my business. I know it's not but she lashed out) and wasn't able to send the items out. After this, she blocked all contact with me so I was never made aware if the items were shipped out at all or not.

To this day (almost a year later), I still do not possess these items nor was I given a refund of $1,000 (what I paid for these items).


Late February 2016, I sold the fursuit of Magnus. Deanna (Ino89777, or Skypro Fursuits) direct messaged me on Twitter and offered me $600 plus a custom partial. Before this, Sarina had contacted me and offered to buy the suit in pay in full, after telling me she could not ship out my items because she couldn't afford it. Where was this money coming from if she couldn't ship out my items? I believe she said a friend was going to pay for it, but I might be wrong. I accepted Deanna’s offer. Sarina bashed me and said she had dibs on the suit. I never signed a contract or promised Sarina she would get the suit back.

Deanna bought the suit, NOT the character rights. I still own Magnus as a character. Deanna purchased the suit only and is changing its design.


Over time, there were many characters that were look-alikes to Magnus. “Kai”, which was Sarina’s Angel Dragon, being one of the many copies. I believe she sold this character, however.

Because of Kai, I decided it was time to evolve Magnus into something new and better. I changed her short nub tail to a long floor-dragging one. I added feathers and the color purple. Magnus is no longer affiliated with Pokeball Angel Dragons (she used to have a black band around her waist) nor is she based off a great ball anymore. (Please refrain from calling her such!)

I don't mind characters that are based off a great ball, but the markings should be unique, not the same… I know I cannot copyright colors, but if they are the exact same then it's an issue. Why not use different shades or add your own touch?

I do not want to cause drama. I definitely do not want people to go out and attack others for having a design that is based off a great ball or that might look like Magnus. Just make me aware of it, please.

I just want everything to be set straight and no more drama to follow me or the Magnus character. I also just want my items from Sarina or a refund…

NOW I contracted her on FA after seeing an adopt she had for sale: Palette comparing
I commented politely, asking her to change the colors up, but only responded by saying I can't copyright colors, then blocked me. I only wanted her to use her imagination, not just copy-paste the same colors onto multiple characters.
I'm just very frustrated right now.

• What is the name of your fursona?
Rendezvous (the HyenaRoo)

• Where did the name of your Fursona come from?
The One Direction song "Perfect"

• What species is your fursona and why did you choose that species?
Rendezvous isn't really a "species" but I call her a HyenaRoo (Hyena-Kangaroo hybrid).
In reality, Rendie has a million different animal attributes to her. She's built like a hyena, has kangaroo ears, she can purr (like a cat), bark like a dog (and has a dog nose), the inside of her ears are ribbed like a bat.

• What color is your fursona and why? Hair/fur/eye/ect
Rendezvous is primarily purple and navy blue. She has a little bit of white on her as well. - This is because my favorite color is purple. Basically it.
Her eyes are two shades of green, pupils are a darker green, and her scelra is an eggshell color. - This is because my love for green eyes.

• What is your fursona's personality and how does this compare to your RL personality?
Rendezvous is everything I crave to be in my own skin. She is a bubbly, wild, and carefree girl. She can be hyper but also serious when need be. She just wants to have fun and make people smile honestly! Which is basically all me. :)

• What is one item your fursona owns that is significant to you in RL?
Rendezvous has many items and accessories that I also own. She has a rainbow unicorn pillow pet, some collars, bandanas, etc.

• What is one thing you think you would say to your fursona if you could meet?
How are you so fucking hyper and cute all the time

• What is one thing your fursona would say to you if they met you?
I LOVE YOU LETS BE FRIENDS

• How has your fursona changed over the years?
Not much honestly and I don't plan on changing her much anymore.
She's lessened the amount of white on her body, simplified some of her markings, and that's about it!

• How long have you had this fursona?
Hmm... Since about 2012? But I changed my fursona to "Zeiroe" then scrapped Zei and went back to Rendezvous who was "Three" at the time. :)

• Would you like to be more like your fursona?
Yes, definitely. My fursona allows me to show my childish side and open up to people easier. Heart
